What is Easy AI Act Image Labels?
Easy AI Act Image Labels is a Shopify app for labelling AI images in online stores. Its motto: “I find the evidence, you decide with one click.”
- Find: The app reads provenance markers (C2PA/Content Credentials, IPTC DigitalSourceType) from the original files in the Shopify media library and proposes the matching label for each image, AI GENERATED or AI MODIFIED. A marker that is found is evidence; a missing marker says nothing. Merchants label images without a marker themselves.
- Decide: The merchant decides on each image with one click. With Unlimited, an automation with a fixed rule is available: marker found means label, new images are checked daily, and every automatic decision can be changed.
- Show: The official EU icon appears as an overlay on the image. The merchant turns on an app embed in the theme editor for this; image files and products stay unchanged, and the app has read-only permissions.
- Languages: The app interface is available in 12 languages. With Unlimited, the label wording follows the storefront language in 24 EU languages; this is the app’s own translation, as the official icon files exist in English only.
- Pricing: The Free plan stays free for good (25 labels, one fixed label language, no automation). Unlimited has no label limit and comes with a 7-day free trial. The amounts are on the pricing page; billing runs through Shopify.
- Status: On the Shopify App Store since 7 October 2026: apps.shopify.com/easy-ai-act-image-labels. The AI image checker on this website can be used without signing up.

Figures from the app’s own measurements
Which generators mark their images (test bench, 1 September 2026): Of 59 image files from AI tools, cross-checks and two controls, 43 carried a provenance marker. In the catalogue of the image service Magnific, 34 of 47 entries generated via API, one model each, wrote a signed C2PA marker and 13 wrote none. Details for each tool: Which AI image generators write provenance evidence?
What reaches the store (1 and 30 September 2026): The stored original keeps the marker; after upload on 1 September 2026, all 34 of 34 markers were intact. The copies Shopify delivers to visitors are re-encoded: of 38 images with a marker, the delivered copy still carried it in 6 cases on 30 September 2026. This is why the app reads the marker on the original, not on the store copy.
Shopify AI Image Index (edition 1, 1 and 2 October 2026): 3,136 Shopify stores with an EU or Swiss country domain from the Tranco list of the most visited websites were measured, 2,992 of them measurable. For 0.1% of the measured stores, the home page or one of three product pages carried a label signature in the delivered HTML; labels set by a script in the browser are not visible to the measurement. For 8.0% of the stores, a provenance marker was readable on at least one of up to 30 delivered image copies. A provenance marker that is found is evidence. A missing marker or a label that was not found says nothing about whether an image was made with AI or whether a store has to label anything. Free AI image checker: On this website, the AI image checker checks up to 20 images per run without signing up, in JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF up to 20 MB each. The files are read in the browser and not uploaded. The checker reads the file with fixed rules and uses no AI.
The legal position in three sentences
Since 2 August 2026, Article 50(4) of the AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) has required deployers to disclose visibly any AI-generated or AI-altered images that look real, with no transition period for stores. The machine-readable marking under Article 50(2) is owed by the provider of the generator, not by the store. Providers of systems placed on the market before 2 August 2026 have until 2 December 2026 to apply it (Article 111(4) as amended by Regulation (EU) 2026/1744).

About Easy AI Act Image Labels
Easy AI Act Image Labels is a Shopify app for labelling AI images in online stores, built for the visible disclosure duty under Article 50(4) of the EU AI Act. It reads provenance data such as C2PA/Content Credentials and IPTC directly from a store’s original image files, proposes the official EU icon and, once the merchant has decided, shows it over the image without changing the file. It also offers the free AI image checker at easyaiactlabels.com, which reads images in the browser without uploading them.
